The Ares Iconsistsof a solid rocket booster (SRB) first stage, and a hydrogen fuelled second stage. The first stage flew once in the Ares I-X mission in 2009. Shortly after, the Constellation program and the Ares I launch vehicle would be cancelled and replaced with the Commercial Crew Program for access to the ISS, and the Artemis program for lunar flights.
